Short post about Panty and Stocking: Good vs. Evil isn’t black and white anymore

I was inspired by Ghostligtning‘s post on Panty and Stocking episode 12 that I decided to write something about it.

Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt is probably one of the nicer anime of this year. Sure it as nice amounts of comedy and fanservice to keep us entertained, not to mention it has taken the magical girl transformation sequence to the apex with full course stripping. Sure, it alluded to may western references such as Romeo and Juliet the movie for episode 12 and a whole bunch of western music icons with that famous MTV episode.

Panty & Stocking: Not exactly your good girl angels, but still angels.

But one thing is for certain, the anime shows us that Good vs. Evil isn’t exactly black and white. How come? Look at Panty and Stocking, they are angels who are lustful and gluttonous, respectively plus they are very anarchistic. They aren’t exactly the angels who are epitome of all good as opposed to what we have been taught at schools. The Demon Sisters are obsessed with rules and their engagement against the angels have been built upon it. The Demon Sisters might be villains and they have repressed negatives but still, they are guided by rrrrules, simply saying, The Demon Sisters are the foil and villains for the angels but they are so obsessed with rules and order that the anarchistic nature of the angels overpower them time and again and thus good always wins against evil.

Scanty & Kneesocks: "Lawful Evil" describes them pretty much.

Now that you look at it, it isn’t just black and white anymore. Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt manages to show us that Good vs. Evil is just gray. Good isn’t exactly but still at the heart is good, evil isn’t seemingly but at the core is still very evil and everything else in between is just crazy and chaos.

…And come to think of it, it is kinda like reality to a degree.
