翼をください (Tsubasa wo Kudasai), a timeless Japanese classic in anime today

翼をください (Tsubasa wo Kudasai (lit. Please give us wings)) is a very popular folk song in Japan released way back in 1971. Due to its popularity, it has been covered many times in anime.

I really love this song as it really has a strong emotional appeal, a heartfelt plea to get wings and soar to the sky where there’s freedom and no sadness. I truly love this song with all of my heart.

Here are some famous anime covers of 翼をください

  1. While a beautiful song in it’s own right , I find it a real shame I can no longer listen to it without envisioning giant robot battles and the end of world. I’m guessing that wasn’t the original writer’s intent. :I
