Final thoughts on Last Exile: Fam the Silver Wing

I love this anime. Its simply awesome and from day 1, I thought that this as a “must watch” anime, and it remained a must watch until the very end. Its very rare that an anime like this deliver consistently episode after episode and not suffer a drop in quality, and this anime does it. I think that alone speaks volumes on how good this anime is.

This anime is a sequel of the original Last Exile anime. The good thing is that you don’t need to have watched the original in order to understand this one as this is an entirely new Last Exile anime, though having watched the original helps.

Continuing the tradition of the original Last Exile, the anime is a visual feast. The rendering of the battleships and vanships is spectacular and the scenery such as the hustle and bustle of Turan (in the beginning) and the view of the headquarters of the Sky Pirates from above is a sight to behold. The battles and the small things that happen along with it are wonderfully illustrated.

The characters are good in this anime, even Fam who is your painfully stereotypical optimistic heroine is quite fun to watch. Personally my pick for best character in this is Millia because I loved her character development from weak princess to inspirational leader and I loved watching her character grow.

The OP and ED themes of this anime is very good and it fits the anime perfectly. The BGM ensemble of this anime is really good in my opinion.

The true strength of this anime is the story. The anime is a marvel of straightforward storytelling and along with its great visuals, the anime realistically depicts the tragedy of war and the people affected by it on both sides. Because this anime has such great straightforward storytelling, I think this anime is a great gateway anime for the thinking anime fan.

If you liked the original Last Exile or if you’re looking for an anime with great story and lush visuals, Last Exile: Fam the Silver Wing is for you.

  1. Thanks for the review. I am still in the middle of the series but trying to catch up. So far, I think the anime played it relatively safe and stayed on the lighter side compared to the originals. But I suppose it would be well if I keep going🙂
