First Impressions – Tamako Market

Kyoto Animation is starting 2013 with this anime called Tamako Market after doing two meta titles last year. It seems that KyoAni is back to its old tricks.

The plot according to Wikipedia is…

Tamako Kitashirakawa is the eldest daughter of a family which runs a mocchi shop in her town’s bustling Tama-ya shopping district. One day, Tamako encounters a strange talking bird named Dela Mochimazui who takes up residence in her home. The series follows the everyday life of Tamako, her friends, family and neighbors, and this peculiar bird.

Pretty much slice of life.

KyoAni’s Keion team is back once again with another slice of life anime that’s looking to be a guaranteed hit money maker. The anime does pretty much what you’d expect out of KyoAni’s Keion team which is stuff you with high dosage of moe. There’s Tamako who fits the typical KyoAni moe heroine and there’s her imouto (voiced by Rina Hidaka, minus the bossy) and her friends which just maxes the moe appeal which is rounded up by a nice supporting cast. The thing that really caught my eye in this anime is the bird. The damn bird might just steal the spotlight. I can foresee the dozens of plushies and other merchandise that will be shouldered by the bird.

The animation in this is high quality as expected of KyoAni, so high quality that even animation for mocchi making is very fluid. KyoAni really did a good job on casting Aya Suzaki for the main heroine role.

I’ve said earlier that this anime will be a guaranteed hit. That is because I feel that KyoAni’s Keion team is actually adding an element of Nichijou to their tried and tested Keion formula. As a guy who thinks Nichijou is Kyoani’s best anime, I’m kinda excited how this anime will turn out.
